I’m actually not sure why coffee has developed a reputation as being a guilty pleasure or that it’s somehow not “good for you”. Wrong. Coffee, especailly in larger quantities of 3-5 cups per day has numerous benefits from a health perspective. Any from an enjoyment view? Am I the only one who goes to bed super excited that I’ve already ground my coffee and it’s sitting patiently waiting for the kettle to deliver its catalyst that will transform said pile of grounds into morning magic in the AM?
Now the quality of your coffee DOES matter. Most of your flavored coffees derives their taste from chemicals. Specifically, propylene glycol which is actually a solvent. It’s used to make the flavors stick to the beans. Oh, another note? The beans used for these flavored coffees are stale or of a low quality.
Choosing a whole bean coffee is best. You probably know by now I’m a certified member of the Trader Joe’s fan club. Their Ecuadorian, Columbian, Costa Rican coffees are fabulous. And super cheap. You can ground them there or pick yourself up a small grinder on Amazon for about $15. I love my French Press. And when we’re back from Italy? I find myself using our Bialetti primarily to create the ambiance of our travels.

Putting in anything but a natural, clean creamer in your beautiful coffee negates all the benefits above. Check the label. Sorry to say that the “Maple Cream Lux” or “Raspberry Coconut Delight” bottles or cartons of so-called creamer is not anywhere near what you think it is.
You’ll find added sugars, dyes (carcinogenic), artificial sweeteners, palm oil, preservatives, gums and emulsifiers. Are there natural options? You bet! Again, check Trader Joes or Whole Foods. Or use oat milk and vanilla or cinnamon and cocoa. Also, if you EVER see the words “Natural Flavors” on any food run away-this is a code name for “full of chemicals” believe it or not. Sigh.
